Fubara to revive ‘moribund’ Rivers Neighbourhood Watch — six years after creation

Siminalayi Fubara, governor of Rivers, says there are plans to re-introduce Neighbourhood Watch, a community-based security outfit set up by the administration of his predecessor Nyesom Wike.
Fubara spoke about the possibility of bringing back the security outfit during a meeting with its leader at the government house in Port Harcourt, the state capital, on Tuesday night.
Wogbo Lawrence, commandant of the Neighbourhood Watch, who briefed journalists after the meeting said he was satisfied with the assurance given by the governor after six years of neglect.
Lawrence said despite the lack of remuneration, the security outfit had struggled independently to sustain about 1,150 personnel that it has posted to the 23 LGAs of the state.
The implementation of the act that established the security agency in March 2018 suffered a setback after the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) alleged that it was intended to be used to intimidate its members in the 2019 elections.
