Army promotes Oluyede, acting COAS to lieutenant general rank
On October 30, President Tinubu appointed Oluyede, who was a major general, as the acting COAS.

President Bola Tinubu has decorated Olufemi Oluyede, the acting chief of army staff, with a higher rank of lieutenant general.
On October 30, President Tinubu appointed Oluyede, who was a major general, as the acting COAS.
Bayo Onanuga, the special adviser to the president on information and strategy, said Oluyede would act in the position pending the return of the indisposed Taoreed Lagbaja, the substantive COAS.
There have been speculations about the state health of Lagbaja, who the military headquarters said is abroad for medical treatment.
His continued absence has fuelled rumours that he had died, but the military authorities have denied the news.
Onanuga on Tuesday confirmed that the president decorated Oluyede with his new rank at the State House.
If confirmed by the senate, Oluyede will become the substantive army chief, permanently replacing Lagbaja.
