Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife, has applauded Borussia Dortmund footballer Karim Adeyemi for his philanthropic initiatives through the Karim Adeyemi Foundation.
Ooni spoke on Wednesday during Adeyemi’s visit to his palace in Ile-Ife, Osun state.
The football star, accompanied by his parents, was warmly received by the monarch, who praised his dedication to giving back to society.
“I’m truly proud of your kindness and efforts,” the Ooni said. “Using your foundation to create a better future for others is highly commendable. Please continue with this spirit of humanity; it makes a big difference. Thank you for your selflessness.”
The monarch urged Adeyemi to remain focused on his charitable pursuits and to keep making a positive impact on lives worldwide.
In his response, Adeyemi expressed gratitude for the royal reception and shared his commitment to societal development.
“It’s an honor to be here with my parents,” Adeyemi said. “Through the Karim Adeyemi Foundation, my mission is to give back to society. Additionally, I aim to provide opportunities for young football talents through the Adeyemi Football Club. I remain dedicated to supporting communities and making a difference.”
Abiodun Adeyemi, the footballer’s father—fondly known as “Baba Abe”—also thanked the Ooni for his hospitality. He reaffirmed his family’s commitment to supporting community development.
“On behalf of my family, I want to thank Your Majesty for this warm reception,” he said. “Karim has never forgotten his roots and will continue to give back to society as part of our mission.”
Karim Adeyemi’s visit to the Ooni’s palace was part of his annual trip to Nigeria. The star arrived in Ibadan, his father’s hometown, on December 23.
On Tuesday, he attended the grand finale of the Adeyemi Under-15 football championship at Olubadan Stadium in Ibadan.
He also inaugurated several projects initiated by his foundation in the Oje metropolis of Ibadan, before proceeding to Ile-Ife for the royal visit.
