Segun Aina, the newly appointed registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), has officially assumed office, unveiling a five-year strategic plan aimed at strengthening the board’s operations through technology, institutional reforms and improved service delivery.
Speaking on his first day in office on Monday, Aina described his appointment as “a homecoming and a solemn responsibility”, pledging to build on the achievements of his predecessor, Ishaq Oloyede, while introducing reforms to improve efficiency, transparency and stakeholder confidence.
The roadmap, titled “JAMB 2031: Building trust, reducing trauma”, outlines the board’s development agenda for 2026 to 2031.
According to Aina, the strategy is built around two strategic objectives, five institutional pillars and seven flagship initiatives designed to strengthen JAMB’s capacity and improve the experience of candidates, tertiary institutions and other stakeholders.
He said the plan aligns with the board’s statutory responsibility of ensuring fair, credible and equitable access to tertiary education through transparent registration, secure examinations and merit-based admissions.
Aina reiterated his vision of positioning JAMB as Africa’s most trusted, innovative and accessible assessment and admissions institution, stressing that the board’s credibility should be anchored on strong systems, institutional values and partnerships rather than individuals.
The registrar said the reform agenda would be implemented through five key pillars.
The first pillar, integrity, focuses on strengthening institutional credibility through internationally recognised standards, including ISO 27001 certification, independent technology reviews and systems that enhance transparency and accountability.
The second, service, seeks to improve customer experience through responsive service delivery, transparent communication and stronger engagement with candidates, parents, tertiary institutions and other stakeholders.
Under governance, the board plans to improve performance monitoring, contract management, operational resilience and internal accountability to enhance institutional effectiveness.
The technology pillar prioritises expanding JAMB’s digital infrastructure through mobile services, web platforms, printing systems, artificial intelligence and data analytics to improve service delivery and decision-making.
The fifth pillar, partnerships, aims to deepen collaboration with financial institutions, fintech companies, educational organisations and international partners to support innovation and broaden opportunities within the education sector.
SEVEN FLAGSHIP INITIATIVES
To implement the strategy, Aina announced seven flagship initiatives to be pursued over the next five years.
They include an independent review of JAMB’s technology infrastructure, attainment of ISO 27001 information security certification, development of a unified JAMB mobile application, strategic communication and brand repositioning, creation of a unified customer service platform, transition to a paperless enterprise-wide digital administration system, and improved staff welfare and capacity development.
He said the initiatives would make the board more responsive, secure, digitally integrated and efficient while strengthening public confidence in its operations.
Aina said technology would remain central to JAMB’s transformation but stressed that people would continue to be the institution’s greatest asset.
He noted that every registration reflects the aspirations of a young Nigerian and the sacrifices of parents and guardians, assuring candidates and stakeholders that his administration would continue to simplify processes, improve communication and uphold fairness, transparency and integrity.
The registrar also urged members of staff to embrace innovation, professionalism and teamwork, saying enduring institutions are built on shared values rather than individual achievements.
He added that his administration would focus on building systems capable of sustaining public trust and positioning JAMB among the world’s leading technology-driven examination and admissions agencies.
