The National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) has released the results of the June/July 2026 National Business Certificate (NBC) and National Technical Certificate (NTC) examinations.
Mohammed Aminu Mohammed, NABTEB registrar/chief executive officer (CEO), announced the release on Wednesday at a press briefing at the board’s headquarters in Benin City, Edo state.
Mohammed said 79,504 candidates obtained five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics.
He said the figure represents 81.24 percent of the 97,867 candidates who sat for the examinations, an improvement from the 68.18 percent recorded in the May/June 2025 examinations.
In 2025, 61,104 candidates obtained five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics.
Mohammed added that 89,580 candidates, representing 91.53 percent of those who sat for the 2026 examinations, obtained five credits and above, with or without English Language and Mathematics.
This was also higher than the 74,633 candidates, representing 83.28 percent, recorded in the 2025 examination cycle.
“The improvement recorded in the 2026 examination is encouraging and demonstrates the collective efforts of candidates, teachers, schools, parents and the wider education system,” he said.
The registrar also disclosed that 24,128 candidates, representing 24.65 percent, were certified as craftsmen.
He described the figure as significant, particularly in view of NABTEB’s mandate to promote practical skills acquisition and occupational competence.
Mohammed said the examinations were conducted nationwide from June 15 to July 13, 2026, across 2,144 examination centres.
He said 100,069 candidates registered for the examinations, compared with 92,876 candidates in 2025, representing an increase of 7,193 candidates.
The number of examination centres also increased from 1,892 in 2025 to 2,144 in 2026.
Candidates sat for examinations in 16 engineering trades, seven construction trades, nine miscellaneous trades, four business subjects and 16 general education subjects.
Of the 100,069 candidates registered, 97,867 sat for the examinations, representing a 97.80 percent attendance rate.
Mohammed, however, disclosed that 847 candidates were involved in examination malpractice during the 2026 examinations.
He said the cases involved 1,554 incidents, representing 1.55 percent of the candidates who sat for the examinations.
“While every incidence of malpractice remains a matter of serious concern, the relatively low proportion recorded is an indication that our strengthened measures are having a positive impact,” he said.
The registrar appealed to candidates, parents, school administrators and other examination stakeholders to resist attempts to compromise the integrity of the examinations.
He assured that the board would apply its regulations fairly and firmly where cases of malpractice or other examination irregularities are established.
Mohammed said the results were released 52 days after the last examination, describing the turnaround time as evidence of NABTEB’s commitment to efficiency, professionalism and timely service delivery.
He commended President Bola Tinubu for his administration’s emphasis on human capital development, skills acquisition, technical education and economic empowerment.
He said NABTEB would continue to support the government’s direction through credible assessment and certification of technical and business competencies.
The registrar also commended Tunji Alausa, minister of education, for his leadership and focus on transforming Nigeria’s education sector, particularly the growing emphasis on technical and vocational education and training (TVET).
Mohammed assured stakeholders that NABTEB would continue to deploy technology to reduce human error, improve efficiency, strengthen examination security and enhance the credibility of its assessment process.
