President Bola Tinubu has ended his working vacation in Europe and departed Paris, France, for Nigeria, the State House has said.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by Bayo Onanuga, special adviser to the president on information and strategy, Tinubu’s aircraft is expected to land at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos later on Tuesday.
Onanuga said the president chose to travel to Lagos first to honour the memory of the late MKO Abiola, whom he described as a martyr of Nigeria’s democratic struggle.
The president is expected to attend the premiere of a movie about Abiola at the Wole Soyinka National Theatre in Iganmu, Lagos, on October 1, Nigeria’s Independence Day.
While in Lagos, Tinubu will also hold what Onanuga described as strategic meetings with political leaders and associates over several days in preparation for the 2027 elections.
Tinubu departed Abuja on August 30 for the working vacation and spent one week in London before travelling to Paris.
During his stay in Paris, the president attended a private dinner with Emmanuel Macron, president of France.
He also met with business leaders, including Vincent Bolloré of the Bolloré Group, whose media and digital interests include Canal+, MultiChoice and Universal Music Group.
On Monday, Tinubu met with Femi Otedola, chairman of First Holdings.
Onanuga said the president also witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Ogun state government and DP World for the construction of a Gateway deep seaport in Ogun Waterside and the development of a blue marine economic zone.
According to the statement, DP World, a global ports and logistics operator, plans to invest $7 billion in the seaport and economic zone.
Tinubu is expected to return to Abuja after concluding his political engagements in Lagos.
