In a statement issued by Osa Director, national publicity secretary of the party, the NDC said the purported results being shared online do not represent the official outcome of the primaries conducted on May 28 and 29, 2026.

The party said only its national executive council (NEC) is authorised to announce the outcome of the exercise.

“The results of the primaries are with the National Executive Council, NEC of our great party. They are solely responsible for announcements of results,” the statement reads.

The party also announced that a NEC meeting has been convened to deliberate on matters arising from the primaries.

According to the statement, the meeting was called on the directive of Seriake Dickson, the party’s national leader.

The NDC directed all NEC members to arrive in Abuja for a pre-NEC meeting scheduled for Tuesday, June 2, while the main NEC meeting will hold on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.

The party added that the public and stakeholders would be informed of the official outcome of the primaries after the process of forwarding the names of successful candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The NDC urged party members and the public to await official communication from its leadership.

The post NDC dismisses social media primary results, schedules NEC meeting in Abuja first appeared on The Times of Abuja.

The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) backed by Nyesom Wike, minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has dissociated itself from a planned convention purportedly organised to affirm former President Goodluck Jonathan as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.

This follows a convention being planned for Saturday, May 30 in Abuja by the Kabiru Turaki-led faction of the PDP to affirm Jonathan’s candidacy.

In a statement issued on Friday, Jungudo Mohammed, national publicity secretary of the PDP faction, described the planned exercise as unauthorised and misleading.

Mohammed said the party had not scheduled, approved or endorsed any convention, meeting or process for the affirmation of Jonathan’s candidacy.

He urged party members, supporters and the public to disregard reports about the planned event, saying they were intended to create confusion within the polity.

According to him, the former president should also publicly distance himself from the planned exercise to protect the integrity of the democratic process and preserve the credibility he earned while serving the country.

“The party urges former President Goodluck Jonathan to publicly dissociate himself from this charade in order to protect the integrity of the democratic process and preserve the credibility he earned while serving the nation,” the statement reads.

Mohammed further called on security agencies to investigate the source of the reports and take appropriate action against those behind them.

According to him, all primary elections, including governorship, state assembly, national assembly and presidential primaries, had already been concluded in line with the Electoral Act, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) guidelines and the party’s constitution.

Meanwhile, the Turaki-led faction of the PDP has alleged intimidation ahead of the planned convention.

In a statement signed by Ini Ememobong, the faction’s national publicity secretary, the group accused the FCT minister of threatening to shut down the venue for the event.

The faction claimed that the management of A Class Event Centre in Wuse 2, Abuja, the venue of the event, informed it of alleged threats from the FCT minister over the planned gathering.

According to the statement, the venue had been fully paid for, and security agencies had already been notified about the convention.

The group said its lawyers had been directed to remind the management of the event centre of the contractual agreement reached with the organisers.

Despite the alleged intimidation, the faction insisted that the convention would proceed as scheduled on Saturday, May 30, at the A Class Event Centre in Abuja.

The group also criticised President Bola Tinubu’s administration, alleging that actions by some government officials were beginning to portray authoritarian tendencies.

It added that the FCT minister had no legal authority to determine which political events should hold or where they should take place.

The post Wike-backed PDP faction disowns planned convention to affirm Jonathan as 2027 presidential candidate first appeared on The Times of Abuja.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Odu Ward 2 of Dekina LGA of Kogi state, has suspended Jibrin Echocho, the senator representing Kogi east, over alleged anti-party activities.

The suspension was announced after an executive committee meeting of the ward held on May 26, 2026, where party officials accused the lawmaker of actions capable of undermining the unity and stability of the APC in the area.

In a suspension letter signed by Shaibu Mohammed, the ward chairman, Kabiru Mohammed, secretary, and other executives, the party alleged that the senator maintained close ties with opposition figures and engaged in activities suggesting plans to defect from the APC.

The ward executives also accused Echocho of pursuing what they described as a “self-serving third-term agenda” and failing to support the party during consultations and internal political processes.

According to the statement, the senator had consistently acted against the interests of the APC despite benefiting from the party’s platform for several years.

The party further alleged that Echocho failed to deliver victory in his polling unit during the 2019 and 2023 governorship elections and did not provide the expected leadership during crucial political engagements in Kogi State.

Reacting to the development, Nasiru Musa, an APC chieftain, said the suspension became necessary to protect the party’s integrity and strengthen its structure in Kogi east.

Musa accused the lawmaker of poor representation and actions considered harmful to the party’s electoral prospects in the district.

Some stakeholders in the area also reportedly backed the decision, saying party loyalty and collective interest should take priority over personal ambition.

The ward executives said the suspension should serve as a warning to members whose actions could threaten the unity of the APC ahead of future elections in the state.

The senator was yet to issue any statement regarding his suspension as of the time of this report.

The post APC suspends Kogi east senator Jibrin Echocho over alleged anti-party activities first appeared on The Times of Abuja.

Atiku on Wednesday defeated Amaechi and Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, former managing director of the defunct FSB International Bank.

The primary was held in 8,809 wards and 774 local government areas (LGAs) across the country.

According to the breakdown of the results, the former vice-president got 1,846,370 votes against Amaechi’s 504,117. Hayatu-deen came third with 177,120 votes.

Out of 3,113,599 registered ADC members, 2,527,977 voted in the exercise.

The former vice-president will slug it out with President Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate and Peter Obi, the consensus candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), in the 2027 presidential election.

In his acceptance speech after the primary, Atiku urged Amaechi and Hayatu-Deen to join him in the fight to save Nigeria and its democracy.

During the visit to Amaechi’s residence, he was accompanied by key political figures, including Aminu Tambuwal, former Sokoto state governor, Ralph Nwosu, former ADC national chairman, and other party stakeholders.

The visit is seen as part of ongoing consultations to foster unity within the party following the closely contested primary, as preparations begin ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Peter Obi media reach (POMR) alleged that the plan, which it claimed began after the 2023 elections, involved destabilising the LP, manipulating the judiciary, and introducing legislative amendments targeting Obi’s new political platform.

The statement, signed by Ibrahim Umar, said that despite a supreme court of Nigeria ruling in April 2025 resolving a leadership dispute within the Labour Party, rival factions allegedly continued to exploit lower courts to frustrate the judgement.

The statement also identified two developments it claimed heightened political tensions: Obi’s March 22, 2026, visit to Rabiu Kwankwaso, former governor of Kano state, and the ADC rally held in Kano on March 30, where Kwankwaso formally joined the coalition.

It further alleged that after the rally, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was influenced to reinterpret an appeal court ruling, resulting in the delisting of ADC leadership and placing Obi’s candidacy at risk.

“They are attempting to create an illusion of democratic choice by propping up surrogates in various political parties while scheming for a one-party system in a nation of over 200 million people,” the statement reads.

The media office called on Nigerian and international stakeholders to resist what it described as attempts to entrench a one-party system and ensure Obi is allowed to contest in the 2027 presidential election.

The post Obi accuses Tinubu, APC of plot to block his 2027 presidential bid first appeared on The Times of Abuja.

He picked the party’s membership card on Monday in the presence of David Mark, national chairman of the ADC, among others, in Kano.

In a message posted on his Facebook page, where he shared pictures from the event, Kwankwaso wrote, “New Dawn. We are ADC.”

Kwankwaso, national leader of the NNPP, announced his resignation from the party on Sunday.

“I wish to formally announce my resignation from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) with immediate effect,” he wrote in his resignation letter.

“I seize this opportunity to express my profound gratitude for the honour and privilege of serving as the Party’s National Leader and its Presidential Candidate in the 2023 General Elections. As a committed and bonafide member of the party, this was not an easy decision to make.

“However, considering the current trajectory of the nation’s political landscape, which calls for strategic realignment, I have found it necessary to identify with another political platform that offers the best opportunity to effectively change the nation.

“I extend my deepest appreciation to the National Chairman, Ajuji Ahmed and the entire National Working Committee for their steadfast support throughout my time.

“I also thank the Board of Trustees, the National Executive Committee, and all levels of leadership across the party — from the ward to the state level, as well as the legacy members of the party and all followers of the Kwankwasiyya Movement for their dedication and commitment to our shared mission.

“We shall continue to collaborate and work together towards charting a better and more prosperous future for our dear nation.”

Haske, who is also an APC governorship aspirant in Adamawa, spoke on the sidelines of the ruling party’s zonal congress for north-east states held in Gombe on Wednesday.

He attributed the party’s national success and institutionalised progressive governance to the purposeful leadership of President Bola Tinubu.

The congress, hosted by Inuwa Yahaya, governor of Gombe, brought together influential APC leaders from across the north-east. The event saw dris Shaibu Gella, chairman of APC in Adamawa, elected as the new national vice- chairman, north-east.

Other attendees included Governors Mai Mala Buni (Yobe), Agbu Kefas (Taraba), and Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa); Deputy Governor Umar Usman Kadafur (Borno); deputy national chairman Ali Bukar Dalori; and immediate past North-East Vice Chairman Comrade Mustapha Salihu, alongside party chieftains and stakeholders from the region.

Congratulating Gella and other elected officials, Haske highlighted that the peaceful conduct of party events at local, state, and national levels reflects the deliberate stability fostered by APC leadership.

Addressing delegates, Haske described the congress as a defining moment for the party in the North-East, emphasizing that it showcased APC’s unity, internal democracy, and readiness to consolidate its political strength ahead of upcoming elections.

“This Congress is not merely a procedural gathering; it is a powerful affirmation of our collective resolve. It demonstrates that the APC remains united, focused, and prepared to deepen democratic values while advancing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s development agenda,” Haske said.

The Adamawa-born politician also expressed gratitude to President Tinubu, the APC national leadership, and delegates for promoting a transparent and inclusive political environment, adding that the party continues to provide a platform for emerging leaders and new ideas.

Haske received an enthusiastic reception in Gombe, with supporters flooding the venue carrying placards, banners, and chanting slogans such as “Haske Maganin Duhu” and “Haske Is Okay,” signaling rising momentum for his political movement.

He urged party leaders, stakeholders, and supporters nationwide to rally behind APC as preparations intensify for the National Convention slated for March 27–28, 2026, which he described as the apex gathering that will strengthen the party’s unity and strategic direction.

The post Abdulrahman Haske: Purposeful leadership, intra-party stability drive democratic success first appeared on The Times of Abuja.
