Tinubu is a street person, he knows Nigerians are suffering, hungry, says Orji Uzor Kalu

He said Tinubu moves around Abuja, the nation's capital, to feel the people's pulse.

Orji Kalu, the senator representing Abia north, says President Bola Tinubu is aware that Nigerians are suffering and hungry.

“Let me be honest, I know things have not been the way they are supposed to be. The economy has not been so friendly,” the former governor of Abia said in an interview with Channels Television on Thursday.

He said Tinubu moves around Abuja, the nation’s capital, to feel the people’s pulse.

“The president knows that Nigerians are suffering and hungry. He is a street person. He knows the street very well,” he said.

“Some nights, he used his car to go out in Abuja to know what is happening.

“He is not a president that is locked in a hole. He is not a president that does not know what is going on.

“The president goes around the city. Whether there are kidnappings or not, he goes around with one or two cars.”

The former governor said the current economic hardship in the country is not peculiar to Nigeria alone.

Kalu added that many nations are still battling the negative impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, adding that developed countries are faring better because they had developed a robust economy.

“This economic problem is going on almost everywhere in the world,” he said.

“They (Tinubu’s government) are trying to reform the economy and bring it to where it is supposed to be, but it is bringing hardship to our people.
