Edo special security squad dismantles major kidnappers’ hideout, arrests suspects

Edo state’s fight against violent crime scored a major victory over the weekend as security apparatus dismantled a key kidnappers’ den in Egbai community, Ovia northe-east LGA.
The operation, carried out by the Edo state special security squad, led to the arrest of Anthony Fedigha Ebimienwei and Luke Disemoh following “high-level, intelligence-driven surveillance,” according to state security authorities.
The suspects reportedly confessed to abducting one Blessing Nosa and demanding N30 million for their release.
They allegedly attempted another high-profile kidnapping, targeting a businessperson with a N500 million ransom demand, which prompted an intensified multi-agency pursuit and ultimately resulted in their capture.
At the demolition site, Noah Idemudia, coordinator of the Edo State Security Squad, emphasised the administration’s proactive approach to crime prevention.
“These individuals have been in this trade for some time, and it is deeply unfortunate,” Idemudia said.
“Let this serve as a clear warning: under Governor Okpebholo’s watch, Edo State is not a safe haven for kidnappers or any criminal elements.”
Community leaders welcomed the action.
Aghaku Ihanuwaze, youth leader of Egbai community, described the intervention as “courageous and long-overdue,” noting that the area had long been exploited by criminal gangs.
The demolition represents another milestone in GGovernor Monday kpebholo’s ongoing security reforms, which include expanded rural surveillance, community-based intelligence networks, and strengthened inter-agency coordination.
These measures form part of the SHINE Agenda, the administration’s blueprint for sustainable governance, which prioritizes security as the foundation for economic growth and social stability.
