Minister urges innovation as Cosmopolitan University matriculates 430 students

Kingsley Udeh, the minister of innovation, science and technology, has urged newly admitted students of Cosmopolitan University, Abuja, to embrace innovation and technology as key drivers of success in today’s global economy.
Udeh spoke at the university’s third matriculation ceremony held on Saturday, where 430 students were formally admitted into various academic programmes.
Represented by Olushola Odusanya, director-general of the National Centre for Technology Management (NACETEM), the minister said academic qualifications alone no longer guarantee employment in a rapidly changing world.
“A graduate degree does not automatically translate to a job anymore. What translates to jobs is innovation,” he said.
He congratulated the new students and their parents for choosing the institution, describing the university as one committed to producing solution-driven graduates capable of addressing societal and global challenges.
The minister also commended the university’s growth since its establishment and encouraged its management to sustain the momentum.
Carl Adams, vice-chancellor of the university, described the matriculation ceremony as a significant milestone for the institution and the new students.
According to him, the university has continued to expand its academic programmes while maintaining high teaching standards comparable to global institutions.
“We provide top-level courses that place our students on par with those in universities across the world,” Adams said.
He noted that the institution collaborates with international scholars and researchers, adding that staff research output has continued to grow.
Adams said the university sees its students as future leaders across various professions, including nursing, engineering, computer science, and agriculture.
“We want you to be leaders in your chosen professions and compete successfully in the global market,” he added.
Mani Ibrahin, registrar of the university, also disclosed that the institution had received approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to introduce new programmes.
According to him, the university has secured approval to establish a faculty of agriculture and introduce programmes in radiography, as well as postgraduate degrees including MBA, master’s in management, and intelligence and security studies.
Ahmad further revealed that the institution had acquired a new site in Jahi, Abuja, and was making arrangements to relocate some faculties to the new location.
He described the matriculation ceremony as a milestone for the university and the newly admitted students.
The highlight of the ceremony was the administration of the matriculation oath on the new students by the registrar.
