FG targets 1.8m unvaccinated children with N303bn grant

The federal government says it has commenced the third phase of the health systems strengthening (HSS3) grant, a $191 million (N303 billion) program,e supported by Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, to improve basic healthcare and vaccination coverage nationwide for the next four years.
Ali Pate, the coordinating minister of health and social welfare, said the grant is a strategic contribution which aligns with the nation’s national health agenda.
Pate spoke in Abuja at the launch of the HSS3, noting that the programme includes the health sector renewal initiative and the presidential health compact signed in December 2023.
The minister commended Gavi for its consistent collaboration, which he noted has saved millions of lives, helped Nigeria recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, and enabled the introduction of vaccines for HPV, malaria and monkey pox (Mpox).
He stressed the government’s commitment to equitable, accessible healthcare under the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu.
Pate highlighted health as a core democratic dividend, pointing to increased domestic funding and improved coordination under the sector-wide approach.
All donor contributions, including Gavi’s, he said, would be matched with domestic resources and used transparently.
