AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, governor of Kwara, has directed the ministry of business innovation and technology to provide additional free buses as palliative for students returning after the Christmas and New Year holidays.
In a statement on Monday, Damilola Yusuf, the commissioner for business and innovative technology, said the gesture was intended to ease the burden of high transportation costs on the students of Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, and the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN).
He noted that the directive was specifically meant for all KWASU and UNILORIN registered students returning to their respective campuses.
He stated that the buses would be stationed at Queen Elizabeth Secondary School, Taiwo and Soludero Parks at the Post Office, Ilorin, the state capital.
The commissioner affirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting citizens’ educational pursuits, adding that the measure demonstrated the governor’s good intentions.
He advised the returning students to take advantage of the opportunity and report to their campuses on time.
“The gesture is a special measure, specifically put in place for the students,” he added.
