Osimhen’s two goals give Super Eagles victory against Rwanda in World Cup qualifier

Nigeria defeated Rwanda 2-0 on Friday in their CAF World Cup qualifying Group C match, with two goals from Victor Osimhen.
Osimhen tapped in Ademola Lookman’s freekick to give the Super Eagles lead in the first half and extended Nigeria’s dominance in stoppage time with another goal.
The Super Eagles recorded their first victory under Eric Chelle, the new coach, in his first outing with the national team.
Following an altercation during the game, midfielder Wilfred Ndidi was booked in the 49th minute, while D. Bizimana of Rwanda was given a yellow card in the 46th minute of the game.
Rwanda only managed two efforts at goal, struggling to penetrate Nigeria’s defence despite having 45 percent ball possession.
Nigeria’s chances of qualifying are maintained as the win moves them up to fourth position in Group C with six points from five games.
With 10 points, South Africa is presently leading the group, followed by Benin (8 points) and Rwanda (7 points).
Nigeria will now focus on their next games in an attempt to move up the standings and guarantee a berth in the following round of the qualifying campaign.
