AfroBasket final: Tinubu sends presidential delegation to cheer D’Tigress in Abidjan

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has dispatched a presidential delegation to Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, to support Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, as they aim for a historic fifth consecutive AfroBasket title.
The delegation, led by Shehu Dikko, chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSVC), includes senior government officials representing what Tinubu described as the “full weight of our national pride, belief, and support.”
“Our girls have shown character, discipline, and the Nigerian spirit in every game,” the president said in a statement posted on Saturday,” Tinubu said in a post shared via X on Sunday.
“As they prepare for the final in two hours, we stand behind them — not just as fans, but as a grateful nation inspired by their excellence.”
Using the hashtag #MissionV, Tinubu urged the team to “go for gold” and make history by lifting the AfroBasket trophy for the fifth consecutive time.
D’Tigress have dominated the tournament so far, demonstrating remarkable teamwork and resilience.
The final match in Abidjan will test their quest to extend Nigeria’s winning streak in women’s basketball on the African continent.
The team defeated Senegal on Saturday in a stunning comeback to book the final ticket.
“Go for gold. Go for glory, girls!” the president concluded.
