Employees from NBC’s Ikeja plant, Iddo House head office, and its state-of-the-art Apapa recycling facility joined officials of Apapa LG, community leaders, and youth groups to engage residents on proper waste management and the economic potential of recycling.

The walk began at Liverpool Roundabout and ended at the NBC rPET Hub, creating what the company described as “a platform for meaningful interaction on environmental stewardship.”

Soromidayo George, NBC’s corporate affairs and sustainability director, said the initiative forms part of the firm’s wider Waste-to-Wealth campaign.

“This goes beyond picking plastics; it is about creating awareness and changing mindsets,” George explained.

“Recycling is not only good for the environment, it also provides economic opportunities. Our volunteers today are sustainability champions, working with the community to build a cleaner, greener Apapa.”

Since opening the Apapa recycling plant in January 2025, NBC has created jobs and positioned the facility as a model for the state’s green economy. Community leaders welcomed the effort.

Samuel Idoko, youth coordinator of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) Apapa chapter, said the initiative strengthens ongoing youth-led recycling drives, while Jide Santos, chairman of the Azare Community Development Association, praised NBC for “sustained engagement and environmental consciousness across Apapa.”

NBC says projects like this highlight that environmental protection is a shared mission requiring collaboration among companies, government, and local communities.
