Fabian Benjamin, JAMB’s spokesperson said in a statement on Monday that the mop-up examination is for candidates who presented themselves and were biometrically verified for the 2026 UTME but were unable to sit the examination for one reason or another.

The 2026 UTME was conducted between April 23 and 23, across the country. However, some centres experienced technical challenges which made it impossible for a number of candidates to sit the examination.

In addition, some results were subsequently withdrawn over examination infractions, while some candidates who presented themselves for the examination could not be verified biometrically. All such candidates have been listed for the mop-up examination.

Benjamin said the mop-up examination represents the final phase of the annual UTME exercise and serves as an opportunity to address all outstanding examination challenges involving candidates who duly presented themselves but encountered difficulties in taking the examination.

He noted that candidates in this category are advised to begin printing their examination notification Slips from Saturday, June 6.

“Affected candidates are hereby urged to print their Examination Notification Slips, familiarise themselves with their examination centres, and make all necessary arrangements ahead of the examination date, as there will be no further opportunity for any candidate to sit the 2026 UTME after this mop-up exercise,” the statement reads.

Benjamin said some of the withheld results were released after investigations found no prima facie case against the affected candidates.

The JAMB’s spokesperson also said results from centres flagged by the board’s live monitoring team for suspicious activities, or those with adverse reports, remain withheld pending the conclusion of investigations.

He added that such results would be cancelled where sufficient evidence of culpability is established.

He advised candidates whose results are yet to be released to check their status by sending “UTMERESULT” to 55019 or 66019 using the same phone number used during registration.

According to the board, the examination is scheduled to commence on Thursday, April 16, 2026, and candidates are required to print their slips to confirm their examination date, venue, and time.

The board said the examination notification slip contains each candidate’s specific schedule, enabling them to arrive at their designated centres ahead of time for proper screening and accreditation.

JAMB also encouraged candidates to familiarise themselves with their examination centres before the scheduled date to prevent any inconvenience on the day of the examination.

The board added that this year’s UTME will feature enhanced security measures aimed at curbing examination malpractice.

Candidates and centre owners were warned to desist from engaging in any form of misconduct, noting that strict sanctions would be applied to offenders.

The UTME is a yearly examination conducted by JAMB for candidates seeking admission into tertiary institutions across Nigeria.

JAMB disclosed that a total of 224,597 candidates registered for the mock examination, out of which 152,586 candidates successfully sat for the test across 989 computer-based test (CBT) centres nationwide.

The board also announced that more than 20 CBT centres have been delisted following the exercise due to technical challenges experienced during the mock examination.

It said the affected centres were found to have technical inadequacies that compromised the smooth conduct of the test.

JAMB warned candidates to beware of fraudulent individuals or groups, especially on WhatsApp, claiming to assist in inflating examination scores.

The board described such claims as false and criminal, adding that any candidate found engaging in such activities would have their registration cancelled.

It further noted that where such infractions are discovered after the examination, results may be withheld or withdrawn.

JAMB added that the main UTME is scheduled to commence on April 16, 2026.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Fabian Benjamin, public communications advisor of JAMB, said the board had received several accusations of dereliction over the purported admissions despite the programme’s suspension.

Benjamin clarified that the admissions were not conducted through the central admissions processing system (CAPS), the only platform approved for processing admissions into tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

“The board unequivocally states that the said admissions were not conducted through CAPS,” the statement reads.

“Consequently, such admissions are void as they are unknown to the board.”

Benjamin added that the institution is not authorised to admit candidates into the law programme until the expiration of the suspension placed on the faculty.

He warned candidates against accepting admission offers outside CAPS, reiterating that any admission not processed and approved on the platform would not be recognised.

“This sad development once again underscores the importance of heeding the board’s repeated advice to candidates not to accept any offer of admission outside CAPS,” Benjamin said.

He noted that candidates admitted through irregular channels would have no legitimate claim, as they are considered complicit in the process.

He also advised candidates who may have received such offers to disregard them and instead apply for the next unified tertiary matriculation examination (UTME) to seek admission through legitimate channels.

The JAMB spokesperson further revealed that the board is aware of attempts by some universities to circumvent regulations by transferring illegally admitted candidates to other institutions through inter-university transfers.

According to him, such transfers will not be recognised unless the candidate was initially admitted through CAPS.

“For a transfer to be valid, the candidate must have been properly admitted in the first instance,” he said.

Benjamin emphasised that JAMB would continue to enforce admission regulations in line with existing laws and guidelines governing tertiary admissions in Nigeria.
