Arise TV anchor Somtochukwu Maduagwu Killed in Abuja armed robbery

Somtochukwu Maduagwu, a news anchor, reporter, and producer with ARISE News Channel, has been killed during an armed robbery at her home in the Katampe area of Abuja.
Accordind to a statement by the management of Arise Television, Maduagwu was attacked in the early hours of Monday and died from her injuries. She was 29.
ARISE News described her as “a cherished member of the ARISE News family whose voice engaged and connected with our viewers.”
“Sommie’s voice is now silent, but her spirit, passion, and legacy will endure as part of our collective memory,” the statement read. “We call for a speedy investigation, apprehension, and prosecution of the culprits,” the statement reads.
The police have launched a full investigation into the incident.
Born on December 26, 1995, Maduagwu trained as a lawyer before transitioning into broadcast journalism. She quickly built a reputation for her warm on-screen presence, sharp reporting, and professionalism.
Her colleagues and management have extended condolences to her family, calling her passing a devastating loss to both ARISE News and the wider Nigerian media community.
Maduagwu’s death underscores growing concerns about violent crime in the nation’s capital. Police authorities have urged anyone with relevant information to come forward to aid the investigation.
