TaxADR, FIRS, HMRC to host roundtable on dispute resolution, revenue growth in Abuja

The TaxADR, in collaboration with the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and His Majesty’s Revenue & Customs (HMRC) of the United Kingdom (UK), will host a two-day roundtable aimed at charting a new course for tax-related alternative dispute resolution (ADR) in the country.

The event, themed Unlocking revenue & strengthening dispute resolution: A roadmap to tax ADR in Nigeria,” will be held in Abuja on June 25–26 at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre.

The event will be held in a hybrid format, combining in-person and virtual participation.

With Nigeria’s economic challenges further strained by tax disputes and litigation backlogs, stakeholders say the roundtable comes at a crucial time.

The recent approval of the national ADR policy and efforts to harmonise tax laws have created momentum for embedding structured ADR mechanisms within the tax system.

Speaking at a press briefing in Lagos, Lateef Yusuff, founder of TaxADR, said the roundtable will support the integration of tax-specific ADR in line with the national policy.

“With the attorney general’s endorsement of the ADR policy, this is the right time to drive institutional reforms that can boost taxpayer trust, reduce dispute resolution time, and ultimately increase revenue generation,” he said.

The roundtable is expected to bring together a cross-section of government officials, tax administrators, legal experts, business leaders, ADR practitioners, international development partners, and academics.
