UBEC condemns abduction of 25 schoolgirls in Kebbi, commiserates with state government

The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has expressed deep shock and sadness over the attack on Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi state, in the early hours of Monday.
Aisha Garba, executive secretary of UBEC, extended heartfelt condolences to the Kebbi state government, the state universal basic education board (SUBEB), and the people of the state.
Garba said the commission stands in solidarity with the families affected by the tragedy and described the slain teacher as “a brave soul who made the ultimate sacrifice while doing what teachers across our nation do every day—caring for and protecting our children.”
She assured families of the abducted students that they are not alone, noting that UBEC shares in their pain, fear and hope. She also offered prayers for the injured staff member and all others affected.
The executive secretary said UBEC remains committed to working with government partners, community leaders, security agencies and state SUBEBs—including Kebbi—to strengthen school safety, support affected communities and ensure that children’s education is not disrupted by fear.
“Today, we mourn with Kebbi State. We stand together in grief, in solidarity, and in our unwavering resolve to keep our schools safe,” she said.
