Medical doctor abducted in Abuja regains freedom after three weeks in captivity

The Nigerian Medical Association, federal capital territory (NMA-FCT), says Chinonye Nwachukwu, a medical doctor abducted three weeks ago, has regained her freedom.
Nwachukwu, a Ukraine-trained medical doctor, was abducted on October 21 while heading to Garki Hospital, where she works.
Her disappearance sparked widespread concern among colleagues, family members, and the broader medical community across the territory.
In a statement issued on Monday, Emeka Ayogu, the NMA-FCT chairman, said Nwachukwu was found in the Gwagwalada area of Abuja on Sunday night.
“After almost three weeks in captivity, Dr. Nwachukwu has been freed by her abductors,” the statement reads.
“She was rescued safely in Gwagwalada and is currently receiving adequate medical attention.”
Ayogu added that Nwachukwu would soon be reunited with her family and expressed gratitude to all who supported the association during her ordeal.
He commended security agencies and other stakeholders who contributed to the successful return of the abducted doctor, describing the development as “a collective victory for the NMA-FCT and Nigeria’s medical communi.
