Atiku: Nothing cheery about lifting Fubara’s suspension… Tinubu lacks power to suspend a governor

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar says there is nothing to cheer about the lifting of the suspension of Siminalayi Fubara, the governor of Rivers state by President Bola Tinubu.
On Wednesday, President Tinubu announced the end of the emergency rule imposed in Rivers in March due to an escalating political crisis and directed that Fubara, his deputy and the state house of assembly should resume their duties on Thursday, September 18.
However, in a statement posted on his Facebook page, the former vice-president noted that the suspension of Rivers governor and the state house of assembly was unconstitutional.
“Lifting the suspension of Governor Simi Fubara is nothing to cheer about,” he wrote.
“The suspension of the Rivers State Governor and the State House of Assembly was unconstitutional when it was done six months ago and is still illegal today.
“President Tinubu had no power to suspend a democratically elected governor and state lawmakers. The Rivers shenanigans only signpost the dictatorship of the Tinubu administration.”
