‘A dream we must achieve’ — Tinubu backs Nigeria’s 2030 Commonwealth Games bid

President Bola Tinubu says Nigeria’s bid to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games is a “dream” that must be achieved.
In a post on Wednesday via his official X account, Tinubu said no African nation has hosted the games. noting that holding the 2030 competition in Nigeria will send a “powerful message” that the continent is essential to the survival of the commonwealth.
According to Tinubu, “it’s time for Africa”, adding that “let us complete the circle of Commonwealth unity,” while adding his voice to the pitch.
The competition’s evaluation committee is scheduled to hear Nigeria’s final proposal to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games on Wednesday.
Shehu Dikko, the president of Nigeria Sport Commission (NSC), alongside Bukola Olopade, the director-general led Nigeria’s contingent.
The Commonwealth Games is a multi-sports competition organised for the former colonies of the United Kingdom (UK).
It is held every four years across the world.
Nigeria expressed interest in hosting the competition in April.
The Nigerian Olympic Committee (NOC) announced that Abuja would host the 2030 competition.
The only two nations that formally filed their applications before to the August 31 deadline were Nigeria and India.
