PHOTOS: Senior army officers inspect sites for new battalion base in Kwara

Senior officers of the Nigerian Army have inspected proposed sites for a new battalion base and temporary operational camp in Omu-Aran, Irepodun LGA of Kwara state.

The inspection was conducted on Monday, July 27 following President Bola Tinubu’s approval for the establishment of an additional army battalion in the area.

The move is part of the federal government’s efforts to strengthen security infrastructure and expand military presence across Kwara State.

During the inspection, the delegation assessed locations earmarked for the permanent battalion headquarters and an interim operational facility.

The temporary camp is expected to facilitate the rapid deployment of troops and provide immediate operational and logistical support ahead of the establishment of the permanent base.

The new battalion is expected to strengthen efforts to tackle rural banditry, kidnapping and other security threats in Irepodun LGA and surrounding communities.

It will also enhance security coverage in neighbouring areas and help protect agricultural communities and economic activities in the region.

Community leaders and other stakeholders in Omu-Aran welcomed the development, saying a permanent military presence would provide additional security for residents, farmers and businesses.

The establishment of the battalion is expected to further reinforce the federal government’s broader efforts to improve security and protect communities across Kwara state.
