Gunmen have reportedly killed Nasiru Gusau Marafa, bursar of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) headquarters, Abuja.
In a statement announcing Marafa’s death on Sunday, Oladipo Ajayi, NOUN registrar and secretary to council, said the late bursar was reportedly shot while returning from Gusau, Zamfara state, on Sunday, September 6.
Ajayi did not provide details of the incident that led to Marafa’s death.
He described Marafa as a dedicated staff member who served in various positions of responsibility during his career.
He was appointed bursar of NOUN in September 2026 and assumed the position with “a strong sense of duty and commitment” to the advancement of the institution.
“The sudden demise is a profound loss to the University community,” the statement reads.
“The entire University community mourns the passing of a distinguished colleague, dedicated administrator and valued member of the NOUN family.”
The university extended its condolences to Marafa’s family, relatives, friends, colleagues and other mourners, adding that details of the burial arrangements would be communicated once released by the family.
It prayed that Allah would forgive Marafa’s shortcomings and grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus.
