Abba Yusuf clears N4.5bn pension liabilities, acquires 324 housing units in Kano

The Kano State Government has taken over 324 housing units in Kwankwasiyya, Amana and Bandirawo cities after settling pension liabilities worth N4.5 billion.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf authorised the payment through the Kano State Housing Corporation (KSHC), which included N400 million as 10 percent profit to the pension funds trustees.
The move, according to the state, protects pensioners’ entitlements while unlocking the estates for public use.
At the handover ceremony, Abdullahi Rabiu, managing director of KSHC, said the development marked a turning point in Kano’s housing delivery system.
He pledged that the corporation would ensure effective management and sale of the units to meet the state’s housing needs.
Habu Mohammad Fagge, chairman of the pension funds trustee, confirmed the transfer of the houses, noting that it followed the governor’s decision to clear the outstanding pension backlog. He expressed optimism that the estates would now serve their intended purpose.
Ibrahim Adam, special adviser to the governor on information, said the Housing Corporation will begin a transparent process for disposing of the units to qualified buyers, with proceeds expected to boost state revenue.
The government described the initiative as a blend of social welfare and prudent financial management aimed at safeguarding the interests of both residents and pensioners.
