APC reaffirms Solomon Adeola as Ogun 2027 guber candidate, labels Hunye ‘impostor’
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has reaffirmed Solomon Adeola, popularly known as “Yayi”, as its authentic governorship candidate in Ogun state for the 2027 election, describing Abayomi Hunye as an unauthorised claimant to the party’s ticket.
In a statement issued on Monday, Ajibola Basiru, APC national secretary, said Hunye remained suspended from the party.
The APC national secretary described Hunye as an “impostor” and said his claim to the party’s governorship ticket was unauthorised.
Basiru said Hunye was suspended from the party on April 7, 2026, following a petition by executives of his ward, Tube Ward, in Ipokia LGA of Ogun state.
According to him, the suspension was based on a decision by the ward executives, which was subsequently ratified by the Ipokia LGA and approved by the Ogun state working committee (SWC).
Basiru said the suspension followed allegations that Hunye engaged in “activities injurious to the image of the Party” and took “deliberate actions aimed at causing disaffection and division among loyal members”.
He added that Hunye therefore lacked the standing to represent the APC in any capacity.
‘YAYI REMAIBS OUR CANDIDATE’
The APC national secretary reaffirmed Yayi as the party’s duly nominated candidate following its governorship primary, with Balogun Kudirat Abiodun as his running mate.
He said the particulars of Adeola and Abiodun had been submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in line with the Electoral Act 2026 and the commission’s guidelines.
According to him, INEC had issued acknowledgement slips confirming receipt of their particulars as the APC’s candidates for the election scheduled for January 2027.
Basiru also cautioned individuals and organisations against conducting political transactions with Hunye, saying the ruling party would not be responsible for any financial losses, legal disputes or criminal liability arising from such dealings.
He also said the party’s legal team had been directed to initiate contempt proceedings and file a formal complaint with security agencies over what it described as “gross misrepresentation and impersonation”.
The secretary APC further cautioned media organisations against providing a platform for Hunye, saying such action could amount to complicity in what it described as a fraudulent act.
He urged the APC supporters in Ogun to remain calm and law-abiding and ignore what he described as provocations aimed at disrupting peace in the state.
