Court jails man for naira abuse during his birthday celebration in Enugu

F. O. Giwa-Ogunbanjo, the presiding judge of the Federal High Court sitting in Independence Layout, Enugu state, has convicted and sentenced Iziga Jude Ikechukwu, also known as Easy-money, to one year imprisonment for abusing naira notes during his birthday celebration.
Ikechukwu was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on March 26, on a one-count charge bordering on mutilation of naira notes amounting to N81,700.
The charge stated that the 24-year-old, on February 22, 2026, at Embassy Hotel, Enugu Ezike, danced on and mishandled the naira notes issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) during his birthday celebration.
According to the EFCC, the offence contravenes Section 21(1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007.
The defendant pleaded guilty to the charge.
Following his plea, the judge convicted Ikechukwu and sentenced him to one year imprisonment from the date of arraignment, with an option of a N300,000 fine.
The court also ordered that the sum of N81,700 recovered from the convict be forfeited to the federal government through the EFCC.
The commission said Ikechukwu, a palm kernel dealer, was arrested on February 28, 2026, at his residence near Timber Market in Enugu Ezike after a viral video surfaced online showing him abusing naira notes during his birthday celebration.
He was subsequently charged to court and convicted.
