FULL LIST: Court orders forfeiture of 48 properties linked to ex-AGF Malami

The federal high court in Abuja has ordered the final forfeiture of 48 out of 57 properties worth N212 billion linked to Abubakar Malami, former attorney-general of the federation (AGF) and minister of justice.

Joyce Abdulmalik, the presiding judge, granted the final forfeiture application filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and dismissed objections filed by Malami, members of his family and several companies claiming ownership of the assets.

The judge held that the issue before the court was not ownership of the properties but the legitimacy of the funds used to acquire them.

“The issue before the court is not who owns the property, but how legitimate are the funds used to acquire the properties,” Abdulmalik held.

The properties span Abuja, Kebbi, Kano and Kaduna and include luxury hotels, duplexes, residential estates, shopping plazas, warehouses, schools, university facilities and industrial complexes.

The court also dismissed the objections filed by Malami and other claimants, holding that they lacked merit.
