‘Kudos to immigration’ — Nigerian in Sweden gets passport delivered 10 days after application

A Nigerian man living in Sweden has commended the Nigerian Immigration Services (NIS) for the swift processing of his international passport.

In a long post on X, the citizen, who uses social media name @saliutayojnr, said he applied for his Nigerian passport on Tuesday, July 8, and it was delivered to him in Sweden on July 18.

“Kudos to the Nigerian immigration service passport section and the minister of interior @BTOofficial, I applied for my Nigerian passport last week Tuesday and it was delivered to me today here in Sweden,” he wrote.

He also appealed to the federal government to direct the renovation of the Nigerian embassy in Stockholm, Sweden, noting that the office has become an “eyesore”, and an “insult” to Nigeria as a nation.

“I have been to many embassies, but the Nigerian Embassy in Stockholm is the dirtiest I have seen, staff are doing their own racket on the side,” he added.

“We have to pay 500Sek approximately 80k naira as an admin fee for passport renewal, aside from 162 dollars for passport fee, 400Sek approximately 60k naira for DHL fee and getting to the embassy, you have to submit your phone at the reception, for a lost passport after getting a police.

“Report, you have to pay 2500Sek, that’s approximately 400k naira for the admin fee aside from the passport fee. Just opposite the embassy, there’s the Botswana Embassy, the staffs treats we Nigerian citizen who made enquiries about their country much more better than the Nigerian Embassy.”

He added that the Nigerian embassy often opened late, causing delays for applicants who had booked appointments.

“At 9.30 am, the Nigerian Embassy is yet to open, and they booked appointments for 9.30 am, Botswana already started at 9 am. Just a little view of the interior of the Nigerian Embassy, as I couldn’t do much with my phone.

“We need to do more as a nation that values quality. There are no provisions for women with little kids; it’s even written on the wall do not drop diapers, so I’m wondering if they have to take home the diapers when they clean up their kids.

“I had to Google the ambassador’s name and I read his profile, a very rich CV, and I have been thinking, is it that he is not seeing all these rackets, or he decided to look away, or part of the scheme, only God can say. I’m appealing to the Nigerian government to look into this issue and help.”
