NSCDC officer slumps, dies ‘after receiving under-paid’ October’s salary in Osun

The late officer whose name was not disclosed died of shock after realising that the three months 35 percent salary increment arrears, and the new minimum wage were not added to the salaries of the NSCDC operatives.

An officer the Osun command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) slumped and died on Tuesday after receiving his October salary.

The Times of Abuja understands that the late officer whose name was not disclosed died of shock after realising that the three months 35 percent salary increment arrears, and the new minimum wage were not added to the salaries of the NSCDC operatives.

“Immediately after one of our officers received his alert this morning, he just screamed, ha!ha!!ha!!! After which he fell down and never woke up,” officer of the command, who did not want to be named, said.

“All efforts to rescue him from the shock proved abortive. His body has been deposited in the mortuary.”

Sources said many of the officers had their salaries reduced by N24,000 instead of the expected increment and payment of arrears.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had sometimes approved the 25/35 percent increment for workers.

As of the time of this report, the Osun command of the NSCDC has not issued any official statement on the incident.
