The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) have agreed that candidates seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions will pay a one-off fee of N4,000 to verify their West African senior school certificate examination (WASSCE) results.
The two bodies announced the resolution in a joint press statement issued in Abuja in Tuesday on the recently introduced WASSCE/O’Level result verification service.
Under the new arrangement, candidates whose admissions are regulated and coordinated by JAMB will verify their WAEC results once through the board, with the outcome subsequently made available to the institution where they seek admission.
JAMB and WAEC said candidates will make the payment through the specified verification platform and not through their preferred institutions.
The two organisations also said tertiary institutions must not charge candidates for another verification of their WASSCE results.
“Tertiary institutions are to utilise the verified results shared by JAMB for screening, processing candidate admission and other administrative purposes,” the statement reads.
“Candidates shall not be required to pay for another verification.”
The bodies said WAEC has authorised JAMB to share the outcome of the verification exercise with relevant tertiary institutions for screening, admission processing and other administrative purposes.
They added that candidates who successfully verify their WASSCE results through the platform would not be required to repeat the process.
The new arrangement, according to JAMB and WAEC, will enable candidates to initiate the verification process from their homes or any internet-enabled location.
It is also expected to reduce the need for candidates to make repeated visits to tertiary institutions or JAMB-approved Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres for result verification.
JAMB and WAEC therefore encouraged candidates to take advantage of the arrangement by verifying their WASSCE O’Level results through the JAMB-provided verification service once.
The two bodies said the verified results would subsequently be available to relevant institutions for admission-related purposes.
They added that the collaboration was aimed at reducing costs and simplifying the admission process while maintaining the integrity and security of candidates’ academic records.
