Makinde to PDP leadership: You now have the mandate to move the party forward

Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo state, says to the newly elected leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that they “now have the mandate to move the party forward.”

Makinde spoke shortly at the end of the national convention of the opposition party held in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital, on Saturday.

“Congratulations to the newly elected officers of our great party, PDP, led by Alhaji Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN) as Chairman. You now have the mandate of the PDP to move the party forward,” he said.

“Welcome to a new dispensation.”

Kabiru Turaki, a former minister, was elected as the consensus national chairman of the party.

Earlier at the convention, the PDP expelled 11 members, including Nyesom Wike, minister of the federal capital territory (FCT); Ayodele Fayose, a former governor of Ekiti state; and Samuel Anyanwu, its former national secretary, for anti-party activities.

However, Anyawu has described the convention as a “jamboree”, insisting that the event was illegal.

According to Channels Television, Anyawu spoke after the convention, noting that “16 states had not even done their congresses; the entire south-east has not done their congress,” suggesting that “all that happened yesterday [Saturday] was a jamboree.
