NMA-FCT appeals for release of abducted doctor

The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), federal capital territory (FCT) chapter, has appealed to security agencies to intensify efforts to secure the release of Chinonye Nwachukwu, a young medical doctor who has been in captivity for over two weeks.
Speaking at a press conference on Friday in Abuja, Emeka Ayogu, NMA-FCT chairman, said Nwachukwu — a medical graduate who studied in Ukraine — was abducted on October 21 while on her way to Garki Hospital, where she works.
Ayogu said the kidnappers had demanded ransom and warned against interference by law enforcement agencies.
“The family has not been allowed to communicate with her, and her condition remains unknown,” he said, adding that the association was deeply worried about her safety.
He disclosed that the incident had been reported to the Department of State Services (DSS) FCT Command, the FCT Police Command, and the office of the Minister of the FCT.
Ayogu urged security agencies to step up their efforts and warned that the association might consider further actions if the situation was not resolved soon.
Abdullahi Nasiru, NMA-FCT vice-chairman, also called for urgent intervention, saying doctors were increasingly anxious about the safety of their colleague.
Uchenna Aniebue, the association’s treasurer, said the incident had caused deep concern among doctors across the FCT and appealed for calm as authorities continue their search.
Theophilus Agho, chairman of the Nigeria Dental Association (NDA), FCT chapter, pleaded with the abductors to release Nwachukwu unharmed.
“She returned home after studying abroad to serve her country. We appeal for her safe release,” he said, commending the ongoing efforts of the security agencies.
Also, AbdulHafeez Usman, NMA-FCT assistant secretary, urged the agencies involved to remain focused and ensure the doctor’s safe return.
