Nurses to begin nationwide seven-day warning strike over unmet demands

The National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) says its members will begin a nationwide seven-day warning strike due to unmet demands.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Enya Agatha Osinachi, the national secretary of NANNM, said the warning strike will commence by midnight of Tuesday, July 29.

Osinachi said the decision to embark on the strike is as a result of the failure of the federal government and the federal ministry of health to take proactive measures to address the association’s concerns.

She noted that the strike followed a 15-day ultimatum given from July 14.

“Following the decision taken by the National Executive Council of the Sector during the Emergency Meeting held at National Hospital, Abuja on 10th July, 2025 and subsequent to the directive of the National Headquarters of the association, you are hereby directed to embark on 7-Day warning strike commencing from 12:00 midnight of Tuesday 29th of July, 2025,” the statement reads.

“This strike action is total, and there should not be any skeletal nursing services in any of the
Federal health Institutions across the country.”
