More than 8,000 civil servants in the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) will sit for promotion examinations this week.

Chairman of the FCT Civil Service Commission, Emeka Ezeh, said on Sunday that the over 8,000 civil servants cut across 165 cadres.

He said the FCT minister, as part of staff motivation, approved the request of the FCT Civil Service Commission to quickly conclude the 2024 promotion exercise of FCT/FCDA workers across all cadres.

He further stated that the promotion that will be conducted, using the computer-based test (CBT), adding that this will deepen the newly introduced digital platform for promotion examinations that was approved by the FCT Minister.

“Recall that the FCT under the leadership of Barr. Nyesom Wike blazed the trail as the first Commission in Nigeria to conduct its promotion by CBT,” he said.

“The Minister had in August 2025, approved the promotion of 49 directors, who were successful in the CBT examination conducted by the commission.”

More than 8,000 civil servants under the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) will, this week, sit for promotion examinations in Abuja.

A statement by Lere Olayinka, media aide to Nyesom Wike, FCT minister, said the computer-based tests (CBT) will run for five days — from Tuesday, November 25, to Saturday, November 29 — at the National Open University Study Centre along Kubwa Road.

Speaking on Sunday, Emeka Ezeh, chairman of the FCT Civil Service Commission, said the candidates cut across 165 different cadres, reflecting the scale of the 2024 promotion exercise.

Ezeh said the minister approved the fast-tracking of the promotion process as part of measures to boost staff motivation within the FCT and the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA).

He noted that the examinations will be conducted entirely through CBT — a system already institutionalised by the commission with the approval of the minister.

“Recall that the FCT under the leadership of Barr. Nyesom Wike blazed the trail as the first commission in Nigeria to conduct its promotion by CBT,” he said.

Ezeh added that the minister had earlier, in August 2025, approved the promotion of 49 directors who passed the commission’s CBT-based assessment.

The chairman said the week-long exercise demonstrates the administration’s resolve to entrench transparency, fairness and digital efficiency in the FCT civil service.
