PHOTOS: PDP governors attend Zamfara meeting in turbans, babanriga

Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday appeared in turbans and traditional Hausa attire, babanriga, as they gathered in Gusau, Zamfara State capital, for a meeting ahead of the party’s national convention.

On Friday, Dauda Lawal, governor of Zamfara, announced that his colleagues would arrive in the state for a ‘strategic meeting’.

“The governors are convening today for an important meeting of the PDP Governors Forum,” Lawal had said in a statement by Sulaiman Idris, his spokesperson.

“The strategic meeting” will discuss key “political strategies as they navigate the current political landscape.”

The meeting discussed the party’s national convention scheduled for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.

Speaking after the meeting, Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo state, commended Lawal “for graciously hosting the PDP Governors’ Forum in Gusau, this weekend”.

“I also appreciate the good people of Zamfara State for their warm hospitality,” Makinde wrote in a post on Facebook.

“The forum gave us an opportunity to discuss salient national issues on the state of the nation, security concerns and the erosion of democratic principles by the ruling APC. We also deliberated on the upcoming national convention of our great party.
“We implore members and supporters of our great party to remain steadfast as we reposition the PDP as the best option for our dear nation.”
