Oyo APC alleges vote-buying, intimidation in Ibadan north by-election

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo state has alleged widespread irregularities in Saturday’s Ibadan north federal constituency by-election, faulting the declaration of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Folajimi Oyekunle, as winner.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had on Sunday declared Oyekunle winner of the poll, while the APC candidate, Adewale Olatunji, came second.
In a statement on Monday in Ibadan, APC publicity secretary, Olawale Sadare, said the outcome of the election was tainted by vote-buying, intimidation, and other irregularities.
“Regrettably, the by-election was characterised by irregularities reminiscent of the Obasanjo era when elections were dubbed do-or-die affairs by the PDP,” the statement reads.
The APC spokesperson alleged that some PDP chieftains distributed large sums of money to induce voters, adding that certain INEC officials permitted individuals without permanent voter cards (PVCs) to cast their ballots.
Sadare also accused handlers of the park management system (PMS) of mobilising and equipping their members to intimidate residents and disrupt the exercise in parts of Yemetu, Bodija, Sango, and Agbowo.
He said the APC is compiling evidence of the irregularities and would announce its next line of action in due course.
The party urged members to remain calm and continue to repose confidence in its leadership at all levels.
