Ayo Adams wins the Future Awards Africa Independent prize for creative excellence in Oyo
Nigerian visual storyteller, Ayo Adams has been named the winner of The Future Awards Africa Independent prize for creative excellence in Oyo state, recognising his outstanding contribution to filmmaking, storytelling and creative development in the state.
Adams, a graduate of performing and film arts from the University of Ilorin, has built a reputation for using film, journalism and digital media to tell compelling stories around culture, society and the experiences of everyday Nigerians.
His body of work spans documentaries, social-impact storytelling, cultural projects and digital content, with a particular focus on narratives that amplify people, places and issues often overlooked by mainstream media.
Beyond filmmaking and journalism, Adams has continued to use his creative platform to engage young people and contribute to conversations around youth development, culture and social change in Oyo state.
The Future Awards Africa, one of Africa’s prominent youth-focused awards platforms, recognises young Africans who are making significant contributions across different sectors.
Speaking about the award, Adams said, “This is a recognition of my creative journey and an encouragement to continue telling stories that place Oyo state and its people on a wider global map. It is little by little, but we will get there.”
Recently, he also received the Creative Icon Award presented to him by the Society of Nigerian Theatre Artists (SONTA) during the association’s 39th National Conference, held at Lead City University, Ibadan.
