UNIPORT honours TETFund BOT chairman Aminu Masari wirh honourary doctorate degree

The University of Port Harcourt has conferred an honorary doctorate degree of doctor of science in public administration (DSc Honoris Causa) on Aminu Masari,  the chairman of the board of trustees (BoT) of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).

In a statement issued on Sunday, Abdulrahman Oniyangi, the spokesperson of TETFund, said the honour was in recognition of Masari’s outstanding contributions to public service, national development, and educational advancement in Nigeria.

Oniyangi said the conferment took place during the 35th convocation ceremony of the university, which also marked the 50th anniversary of the institution’s establishment.

“The event was attended by distinguished personalities, members of the academic community, and other stakeholders from across the country,” the statement reads.

“As part of the convocation activities, Rt Hon Aminu Bello Masari delivered a thought-provoking convocation lecture titled: “The Role of Universities in Nation-Building.” In his address, he emphasized the critical importance of universities as centers of knowledge creation, research, and innovation, stressing that higher institutions must serve as catalysts for economic growth, good governance, and societal transformation.

“Rt Hon Masari further called for stronger partnerships between universities, government, and the private sector to produce graduates who are not only academically sound but also equipped with practical skills to drive national development.

“The University of Port Harcourt, through this honor, acknowledged Masari’s unwavering commitment to education, his exemplary leadership as Governor of Katsina State, and his strategic role in repositioning TETFund to enhance the quality of tertiary education across Nigeria.

“This recognition underscores the University’s tradition of celebrating individuals who have made significant contributions to national progress and human capital development.”
