Don’t abscond from service, NYSC DG tells corps members

Olakunle Nafiu, the director-general of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has advised corps members not to abandon the national service, urging them to remain committed to contributing to Nigeria’s socio-economic development.
Nafiu spoke while addressing the 2026 batch ‘A’ stream one corps members at the NYSC orientation camps in Ogun and Oyo states.
He commended the corps members for answering the call to national service and encouraged them to practise prudent financial management, noting that it would support them during and after their service year.
The NYSC director-general also urged the corps members to respect the cultures and traditions of their host communities and to maintain good conduct at all times.
“When you are posted to your place of primary assignment, respect their rules, be punctual, be resourceful and learn the culture of the organisation you are posted to,” Nafiu said.
Earlier, Olayinka Nasamu, the Ogun state coordinator of the scheme, told the director-general that 3,341 corps members, including 975 originally deployed to Lagos state, were registered at the camp.
Nasamu said the corps members had conducted themselves responsibly and adapted well to the regimented camp life, adding that camp officials were discharging their duties diligently and working in synergy.
In Oyo state, the NYSC coordinator, Kayode Ola-Peters, said 3,068 corps members were registered at the camp.
Ola-Peters said the corps members had shown commendable character, participated actively in camp activities and demonstrated readiness to contribute to national development across different sectors.
