Police arrest officers filmed brutalising motorcyclist in Ekiti, launch disciplinary probe

The Ekiti state police command has arrested three officers caught in a viral video assaulting a motorcyclist in front of the Osi-Ekiti outpost in Ido-Osi LGA.
In a statement on Monday, Sunday Abutu, the command spokesperson, said the erring officers have been identified and are currently under investigation.
Abutu condemned the unprofessional conduct of the policemen, describing their action as unacceptable and contrary to the ethics of the force.
He said the victim, identified as Damilola Oluwaseun, was intercepted by the officers for riding an unregistered motorcycle without valid documents.
The motorcycle was impounded, and the rider was asked to bring the papers, which he claimed were at home.
“This did not go down well with him, and he became unruly and violent, insulted and assaulted one of the officers,” Abutu said.
“The officers lost their cool and descended on the suspect as seen in the viral video. Unfortunately, the part of the incident where the officer was assaulted by the suspect was never captured.”
Abutu, however, maintained that the command would not tolerate any form of human rights abuse and has taken steps to ensure accountability.
“The State Commissioner of Police, CP Joseph Eribo, has directed a thorough investigation into the incident. The defaulting officers will face disciplinary action, and justice will be served,” he said.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to upholding human rights and providing effective security for residents across Ekiti state.
