VIDEO: Buhari tried his best, may God forgive his inadequacies, says Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has expressed sadness over the death of Muhammadu Buhari, one of his successors, saying he played his role as a soldier, administrator and statesman.

The Times of Abuja reported that Buhari died in London at about 4:30 pm on Sunday following a prolonged illness.

Speaking in an interview on Sunday, Obasanjo said the former president passed on at a time when the totality of his experience was needed to help steer the affairs of the country.

He noted that the late president would be sorely missed and prayed that God grant him Aljanah Firdaus.

“About Muhammadu, that he tried his best,” he said.

“My prayer is that God will forgive him of his inadequacies and accept him into his kingdom.

“It’s a loss to the nation because at a time like this we need the totality of the experience and what I may call statesmanship of all those who have had the opportunity to run the affairs of this country in the past to get us out of the situation we are in.

“He will be sorely missed, and may he soon rest in perfect peace.”
