The remains of former President Muhammadu Buhari have arrived at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua international airport in Katsina state amid heavy security and emotional scenes.
The Times of Abuja reported that Buhari passed away on Sunday in a United Kingdom (UK) clinic at 82.
The late President is set to be buried later today in his hometown of Daura, in accordance with Islamic burial rites.
The body was received at the airport by a nine-man committee inaugurated by President Bola Tinubu to oversee the funeral arrangements.
The members of the committee include senior government officials, religious leaders and representatives of the armed forces.
Present to receive the former president was Nigeria’s first lady, Oluremi Tinubu, who arrived earlier in the day.
