2026 UTME: 1.5m registered as JAMB rules out extension beyond February 28

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) says the sale of e-PINs for the 2026 unified tertiary matriculation examination (UTME) will close on Thursday, February 26, stressing that no extension will be granted.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Fabian Benjamin, JAMB public communication advisor, said e-PIN vending — which enables candidates to proceed to accredited centres for registration — will end at 12:00 midnight on February 26.

The JAMB spokesperson added that actual registration at accredited centres for candidates who have already obtained their e-PINs will end on Saturday, February 28.

As of Tuesday, February 17, he said the board had successfully registered over 1.5 million candidates.

According to him, although the board has a daily registration capacity of 100,000 candidates, centres across the country are currently operating at about 30 percent of that capacity, indicating that many prospective candidates are yet to take advantage of the ongoing registration.

Benjamin said there would be no shift in the deadline because the board’s activities are tied to a nationally coordinated examination calendar agreed upon by all examination bodies in the country.

“Consequently, there is no available window for any extension, even if the board were inclined to consider one,” the statement said.

He advised candidates to obtain their e-PINs before the closing date and proceed immediately to accredited centres to complete their registration, warning that waiting until the final days could result in avoidable difficulties.

He also noted that it would not entertain any appeals for an extension after the deadline, adding that the measure was aimed at ensuring that no candidate who genuinely intends to sit for the 2026 UTME is shut out due to delay or complacency.

“All prospective candidates are urged to act now,” he said.
