inDrive records surge in courier service in Nigeria as rider numbers nearly double in 2025

inDrive, a global ride-hailing and urban services platform, has recorded a sharp increase in the use of its courier service in Nigeria, with the number of active couriers on the platform nearly doubling in 2025 compared with 2024.

The company said the growth reflects rising demand for delivery services and increasing interest among urban workers in flexible, app-based income opportunities.

According to inDrive’s data, couriers operating on the platform complete an average of about 50 deliveries monthly, providing what the company described as steady daily cash flow for riders across major cities and emerging urban centres.

“From Lagos and Abuja to smaller urban centres, more Nigerians are turning to couriering as a reliable way to earn on their own schedule,” the company stated.

The data also showed that Fridays, Thursdays and Mondays are the busiest days for delivery requests, giving couriers clearer insight into how to plan their work schedules for higher productivity.

inDrive said the growth of its courier segment highlights the expanding role of on-demand delivery services in supporting small businesses, livelihoods and last-mile logistics in Nigeria’s fast-growing cities.

Timothy Oladimeji, country representative for inDrive in Nigeria, said more Nigerians are choosing the company’s courier service as a source of income because of the flexibility and control it offers.

“More and more Nigerians are discovering that couriering through inDrive offers not just flexibility, but also transparency and control over how and when they work. Whether it’s to supplement existing income or build a primary source of earnings, everyone can operate in an individually comfortable flow,” he said.

Oladimeji disclosed that the company will launch a dedicated loyalty programme for couriers in Nigeria this month, aimed at supporting riders and improving their earning potential.

Under the programme, couriers who attain Platinum status will receive priority access to delivery requests and increased visibility on the app to reduce downtime and complete more orders.

He added that Platinum couriers in Lagos will also enjoy partner benefits, including discounts on health insurance, vehicle maintenance and health plans.

According to him, the initiative reflects the company’s longer-term focus on supporting couriers beyond short-term market demand.

“The surge in couriering reflects more than just rising demand for deliveries; it highlights a shift in how Nigerians approach work,” he said.

“Many are exploring flexible, independent opportunities that fit around other commitments, from studies to family responsibilities.”

As urban centres continue to expand and demand for fast, on-demand services grows, inDrive said app-based courier services are likely to remain a defining feature of Nigeria’s evolving gig economy.
