‘Painful and irreplaceable loss’ — Dapo Abiodun mourns Taiwo Hassan Ogogo
Dapo Abiodun, governor of Ogun state, has mourned the death of Taiwo Hassan, the veteran Nollywood actor popularly known as Ogogo.
Ogogo, 66, died on Sunday, August 23, after battling cancer.
Kira Taiwo, the actor’s daughter, announced his death during a live session on her Instagram page on Sunday.
The actor’s death came days after Kira disclosed that her father was battling stage four cancer.
Before his death, efforts were made to secure medical treatment for the veteran actor.
Solomon Adeola, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, popularly known as Yayi, was also reported to have offered financial support towards Hassan’s treatment.
Hassan was a prominent figure in the Yoruba film industry, where he built a career spanning several decades and featured in numerous Nollywood productions.
‘PAINFUL AND IRREPLACEABLE LOSS’
In a statement issued on Monday on his official Facebook page, Abiodun described Ogogo’s death as “painful and irreplaceable loss to his family, the people of Ilaro and Yewaland, Ogun State and the entire Nigerian entertainment industry.”
The governor said the state government is “deeply saddened” by the passing of the Ogun-born actor.
“Ogogo was a cultural icon whose remarkable career brought joy to millions and contributed immensely to the growth of our film industry and the promotion of Yoruba culture and values. His legacy and contributions will undoubtedly live on for generations,” the statement reads.
“On behalf of our family, Government and the good people of Ogun State, we commiserate with his family, the people of Ilaro and the entertainment industry.
“May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings, grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus, and give everyone he left behind the fortitude to bear this painful loss.”
