BREAKING: Egbetokun orders probe of KWAM 1 over alleged unruly behaviour at Abuja airport

Kayode Egbetokun, the inspector-general of police (IGP), has ordered a probe of Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as KWAM 1 of his alleged unruly behaviour at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

In a statement on Tuesday evening, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, force public relations officer, said the police have received a petition from the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) over alleged unruly conduct by Fuji musician at the airport.

Adejobi said the incident reportedly occurred on August 5, 2025, and allegedly obstructed the safe operation of an aircraft in violation of the NCAA Regulations, 2023.

On August 5, KWAM 1 caused a stir at the Abuja airport when he was nearly hit by a ValueJet aircraft following a disagreement over the content of a flask he was holding.

KWAM 1, who was onboard a ValueJet plane, was seen drinking from a flask and was approached by a flight attendant who suspected that the content was alcohol, a substance prohibited onboard aircraft in Nigeria.

The attendant was said to have asked the musician to surrender the flask, but KWAM 1 refused, saying it was medication prescribed by his doctor.

Following his refusal to give up the flask, the flight crew deboarded the celebrity.

Adejobi said the IGP has directed the commissioner of police in charge of the airport command to launch a thorough investigation into the incident.

“The investigation aims to unravel the circumstances which led to the ugly incident and ensure justice is served accordingly,” the statement reads.

The police assured the public of its commitment to safety and security within Nigeria’s aviation sector and pledged improved collaboration with stakeholders to ensure strict compliance with aviation laws.
