EFCC arrests 20 suspects for vote buying, recovers N17m during FCT council polls

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says its operatives arrested 20 suspects for alleged electoral offences during the just-concluded council elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

In a statement issued on Sunday, the anti-graft agency said the suspects were picked up on Saturday across different parts of the territory for offences ranging from vote buying and vote selling to obstruction of law enforcement officers.

The commission said N17,218,700 was recovered from the suspects during the operations.

According to the EFCC, one of the suspects was found with N13.5 million in a vehicle parked beside a polling booth in Kwali.

The agency said two suspects were arrested in Abaji, nine in Gwagwalada, four in Kuje, while the remaining four were arrested in Kwali.

The commission added that all the suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
