Gunmen attack Bauchi polytechnic off-campus lodge, kill student

The Bauchi state police command has confirmed the killing of a student of Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic, Bauchi, in an early morning attack by gunmen.
Ahmed Wakil, police spokesperson in Bauchi, told journalists on Friday that the incident happened around 3am when three armed men invaded an off-campus lodge hostel.
Wakil said the assailants attacked two occupants of the lodge, during which Samuel Mbami, a national diploma (ND) student of Mass Communication, was stabbed in the stomach.
“The victim later died as a result of excessive bleeding,” Wakil said, adding that investigations were ongoing to establish the motive behind the attack.
Reacting to the incident, the president of the Students’ Union Government (SUG), Usman Aliyu, described the killing as “tragic and senseless.”
He called on security agencies to carry out a thorough investigation and strengthen patrols around student communities to forestall similar incidents.
Aliyu also appealed to students to remain calm, vigilant, and prioritise their safety.
