JAMB clears 85 exceptional underage candidates for admission

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released the results of 85 exceptional underage candidates who successfully completed its comprehensive screening process for admission.

The board said the cleared candidates, all below 16 years as of September 2025, have been adjudged qualified after rigorous evaluation and are to proceed to their respective institutions to complete their admission process and print their JAMB admission letters.

According to a statement on Monday  by Fabian Benjamin, JAMB’s public communication advisor,  the policy of exceptional admission aligns with global best practices, where such cases are treated as rare exceptions rather than the norm.

Benjamin explained that out of 2,031,133 applicants who sat for the 2025 unified tertiary matriculation examination (UTME), 41,027 sought consideration under the underage category.

Of these, 599 scored 80 percent or above in the UTME and were subjected to additional scrutiny, including school certificate verification and post-UTME screening.

“Following the exercise, 182 candidates emerged as finalists. After due verification, interviews, and screening, 85 candidates were found to have met the criteria and have consequently been cleared for admission,” the statement reads.

The board advised any of the 182 finalists who missed the final interview to submit a formal request through the JAMB support ticketing system under the newly created category, “2025 underage complaint.” Each case, it said, would be reviewed individually based on merit.

In a related development, JAMB announced that candidates who scored 320 and above in the 2025 UTME but were disqualified for failing to upload their O’Level results have been given two days—up to Wednesday, October 29—to upload the required results and notify the Board through the ticketing platform.

Reaffirming its commitment to a credible and transparent admission process, JAMB said it would continue to uphold the integrity of Nigeria’s tertiary education system while ensuring inclusivity and fairness in its operations.
